Nexium 1 turns down the heat in your stomach by decreasing the acid, and since heartburn is common during pregnancy, it may sound like the perfect solution. Studies have suggested Nexium has no negative effects on your growing baby, so it’s a good option for persistent heartburn and acid-related stomach upset.

As with all medications, give your healthcare provider a heads-up before you start taking it. You can try it short-term over a few weeks, or you may need to take it for a longer period under your provider’s guidance.

Nexium belongs to a group of drugs called proton-pump inhibitors, or PPIs. PPIs have shown a tendency to make your bones weaker and more brittle if you take them over many years. If you find you need to take Nexium even after the baby is born, you can ask your provider about other options.
